Pig tracking is an essential part of pipeline integrity programs. It is the process of insuring that the tool gets from point A to point B. Whether you are tracking a maintenance tool or inspection tool, the procedures should be the same. You don't realize how crucial tracking, with professionals, is until you lose a pig in your line.
This is NOT PIG CHASING… if you are chasing the PIG something has gone wrong.
A GeoPhone is a piece of equipment that helps a tracker hear the movement of the pig in the pipe. It is a spike that is put in the ground, on top of the pipe, and connected to the stereo of your vehicle.
The receiver is a piece of equipment that detects the transmitter that is mounted inside of the pig. Maxwell uses both the GeoPhone and the receiver to give it’s trackers every opportunity to catch every passage.
The transmitter is a piece of equipment that emits a signal that is picked up by the receiver. This helps to pinpoint the exact location of the pig. Transmitters can either be a pulse or a solid tone. If you have more than one pig in the line the front pig must be a pulse and the back pig must be a solid. passage.
